Tutorial appointments October 29, 2009

Posted by admin in : Announcements , comments closed

It is vitally important to your academic health and well-being to keep tutorial times. It is both unprofessional, inconsiderate and frankly rude not to keep your appointment with either Amanda or myself – worse when both of us are waiting to help you with advice and guidance that may well lead to a higher degree mark for you. If you can’t make an appointment then please call or mail or message us with a reason and an apology.

Note that tutorials are a compulsory and essential part of the course, each student is allotted 2-3 hours per year of individual one-to-one tutorials…please don’t waste these…you are paying for them!
Also note that tutorials are a timetabled part of the course, and absenteeism will result in an official warning from the Dean’s office.

If you have genuine excuse – please let us know by email as far in advance of the appointment as possible.

ARToolkit October 21, 2009

This is one of the first examples I have seen of how you can explore the intersection of 3D spatialised motion graphics and the real world. The idea of an underlying store of data is a very powerful one and is an extension of the concepts of metaverse and the underworld.

Mutate Britian “One foot in the Grove Exhibition finishes 1st November

A 15000 square foot open air exhibition of Street Art, giant Sculpture and Installations, fully licensed for 1250 people, underneath the West Way Road Bridge next to Portobello Road, Ladbroke Grove, London.

Following the success of their debut show ‘Behind the Shutters’ at the infamous Cordy House, the Mutate Britain team are pleased to announce One Foot in the Grove, an exhibition of painting and sculpture located in the heart of West London on the Portobello Road.

Since artists such as Futura 2000 (then touring with The Clash) and Mode 2 first painted the huge walls supporting the iconic West Way in the early 80s, they have been cited as a birthplace of British graffiti/street art culture. Almost 30 years later Street Art is a global artistic movement, rich with talent, diverse aesthetic styles and momentum sustained by passion. Now over 50 of its old school pioneers, infamous names and future masters are back to build a show that celebrates the depth and heritage of the movement. Expect surprise announcements to add to the mix of works by Mode 2, Matt Small, Dr. D, Part2ism, Best Ever and too many more to mention here.
Thanks to Sam Harman for finding this one.

Interactive Swedish Piano Stairs October 15, 2009

I love this idea which has just appeared on youtube. Funnily enough I read an interview with guitarist Les Paul who died recently about when he first started making guitars, he was interested in the sound properties of wood. He took the wooden treads off the stairs at home and planed them down to different thicknesses so that when he ran up the stairs they sounded like a marimba.
